Citric Acid is one of the most widely used food stabilisers worldwide. It's so widely used that, if you are anything like me, you might have assumed it is used to cut corners or cheapen food products.

The truth is that citric acid is found in citric fruits, is sourced naturally, and stabilises and preserves ingredients without the need for a dedicated artificial preservative. The benefits of citric acid don't end there, however, because citric acid has a much more important role in Lyte products.

Any time you read an ingredient that ends in the word 'citrate', it is likely an electrolyte derived from citric acid. These include tripotassium citrate, magnesium citrate, and zinc citrate. Citrate itself helps metabolise nutrients, which is why it is often paired with certain electrolytes. On top of all of these traits, citric acid helps prevent inflammation, and in the form of potassium citrate, it can help prevent kidney stones.

Citric acid and its citrate derivatives, have a range of benefits for health and electrolyte absorption, which has earned its place in the formulation for many of our Lyte hydration products.
